Whispers From the Past
The past always comes back to haunt you. A sequal to Something to Find.
It has been five months since Rika came to Midgar. Five months that the chip had been removed. Five months and everything seemed to be going perfectly. One day Rika gets a surprise visit from someone from her past that stirs things up. What will become of the life she has grown to love and her friends. Will her life finally fall apart? Or will she over come her past?
It has been five months since the chip was taken out of my head and since then I haven’t been getting my attacks and it feels great. I have been living like a normal person for once…well as normal as I can get. I do still have my power and my split personality.
Tifa gave me a job in the bar and it can get real interesting especially when some people get drunk. Or when some guys try to hit on me. One time this guy was hitting on me Vincent was sitting in the bar and when he saw what was happening well, let’s just say that the guy was out of the bar in less then five seconds. Vincent can be overprotective, but that’s one of the things I love about him.
Speaking of Vincent he has been acting weird lately. It seems like he wants to say something to me, but he never does. Something is on his mind and he won’t share it with me. All well, he will tell me when he is ready. I’m not too worried about it. I’m sure it’s nothing.
Today was my day off from working and I was taking Marlene and Denzel to the park. I was going to invite Vincent along, but he and Cloud went somewhere. I wonder where they went.
“Rika, are you ready to go?” Marlene asked as she came in my room.
“Yep, all set.” I said as I walked towards her.
We went downstairs and when Denzel saw us coming he jumped up from the chair he was sitting in. “We leaving now?” He asked.
“Yes. Ok Tifa, we will be back.”
“Do you have your phone?” She asked.
I checked in my pocket and showed her the phone. After that I put it back in my pocket and the kids and I headed towards the park.
Cloud was nice to buy me a phone of course I refused. It wasn’t because I didn’t want a phone; it was just because I didn’t want to accept such a big gift. Phones are expensive…well, at least to me they are.
When we got to the park Marlene and Denzel ran to the play set while I sat on the bench and watched for awhile. I have always wondered what it would be like to have a child of my own. I think it would be cool to have a kid, but I don’t think I would make a good mom. I wouldn’t know how to raise the kid.
I was snapped out of my thoughts when I heard my name being called. I looked up and saw Denzel waving at me so I went over there. “Come play with us.” He said.
I could never say no to Denzel or Marlene so of course I said yes. We played different games like tag and hide and go seek. After awhile of playing we relaxed on the grass.
“So Rika, when are you and Vincent going to go back to your house?” Marlene asked.
“I’m not sure. I think in a few days.”
Something I had found out a few days after the chip was removed was that Vincent lived in a mansion and since Vincent and I are together I live with him there now. It is a big place and for the first couple of days I got lost…actually I still get lost and Vincent finds it amusing.
“So are you and Vincent going to get married?” Denzel asked.
“I’m not sure. Why do you ask?”
“We thought that since you two love each other you would get married.” Marlene said.
“I suppose it would be nice to get married one day, but I don’t think I’m ready for that yet.”
“Why not?” Denzel asked. “You guys already live together so what’s the difference?”
“You got me there.”
The truth is I’m scared of the thought of getting married. Maybe there wouldn’t be much of a difference because like Denzel said we are already living together, but what if Vincent doesn’t love me enough to want to get married? What if he never asks me? I really need to stop asking myself questions and just wait for whatever happens.
I was snapped out of my thoughts when I heard my phone ring. I took it out of my pocket and answered it. “Hello?”
“Rika!” Yuffie screamed.
“Ow, that was my ear.”
“Sorry. Where are you? I came to the bar, but you aren’t here.”
“I’m at the park with Marlene and Denzel.”
“When will you be back?”
“I don’t know. Why?”
“You need to come back soon.”
“Why? What’s going on?”
“Just hurry.” Then Yuffie hung up.
That was weird. Why does Yuffie want me back at the bar so fast? Sometimes I just don’t understand that girl.
“Who was that?” Denzel asked.
“Yuffie.” I said as I stood up. “She wants us to go back to the bar.”
“Why?”
I just shrugged. “I guess we will find out when we get there.”
