While investigating a series of temporal disturbances emanating from The Guardian of Forever, The Enterprise, captained by James Kirk, is drained of power and sent nearly 80 years into the future, where another ship called Enterprise captained by Jean-Luc Picard saves Kirk's ship from certain destruction.
