The Transformers Generation One
The Golden Age of Cybertron
Abraxis | Part I of III
By R. K. Savage (ThunderChyld)
The year was 2007. It was eleven weeks after the Decepticons were tossed across the galaxy. At this time, the Autobots had begun Cybertron's new Golden Age. As peaceful as it was, some thought that at some point, their peace would be shattered with war.
For Ultra Magnus, it had been a long day, one of the longest that he had ever endured. Across the station on Cybertron, Ultra Magnus had been waiting for his friend and comrade Hot Rod return from Earth. Hot Rod along with Arcee and Springer had travelled there to meet with Optimus to prepare for a Decepticon uprising. It had been months since the Deceptions were tossed out of the sector.
After that fateful day that the Plasma Energy Chamber was opened, everything changed. Cybertron was in it's golden age once more, however Magnus was uneasy. For most of his life, he had always fought. Although he had held the Matrix of Leadership for a short time, he had always felt that he never measured up to Optimus in that regard.
Magnus had commanded the Autobot troops across the stars, planets and installations all across the galaxy. He had always felt that the mission and his troops came first. He remembered the moment he was killed by the manical Galvatron while on the planet of Junk when Unicron attacked Cybertron. He sacrificed himself for the lives under his command.
Only, he was rebuilt by the resident Junkinons there and in time he was reuinited with Hot Rod and the rest of the Autobots. There was something that did plague him after that, something he never let anyone in on… Deep down, he knew that he wasn't meant to command the entire Autobot army. That was not his destiny.
He was more than happy to follow Optimus or Rodimus as the case would be over time. But to him, there was more to being a leader than simply following orders, there had to be more than duty. Friendship had to be a part of this.
Hot Rod, Kup and Springer had been his friends for a number of years. They welcomed Arcee into their inner circle and they became a cohesive unit. Ultimately they were successful in most engagements. Even the Deceptions respected Magnus. As a battlefield commander, few could best him in combat.
It seemed that both he and Optimus were cut from the same threads. Not too surprising. Both are essentially upbeat field commanders with the respect and the skills to back them both. But now, he had doubted his ability, and it became apparent that after the many years of battles, wars, and conflicts, it may be time to do what he was once built to do… Live.
But how does one live when they have lived such a life?
For the first time in many years, Cybertron was at peace. Although there would always be conflicts, it didn't mean that he had to participate in them any more.
"Jazz to Ultra Magnus…" Came the voice of operations officer of New Iacon and his second in command.
"Magnus here," he said through his com-link as he was in vehicle mode passing the other side of town.
"We just got word-Hot Rod's on the way, he'll be here in a megacycle."
"Understood, where will he land?"
Jazz opened his wrist panel and looked over, "They'll land at station seven-beta, near your position."
"Excellent…I will be there in a few cycles. Magnus out…"
Time wore on as he continued to follow the path to the station where the shuttle would land. From behind him, travelling at blinding speed was another one of his friends, one named Blurr. With nothing more than a blue streak he pulled along side of Magnus and after all these years, he had finally found a way to slow down his speech. "UltraMagnus, youknow HotRod's comingright?"
"Sure do-it'll be good to see them all again, even without a fight!" Magnus said happily as they both rounded the outer perimeter of the base. As they reached the outer gates, Autobots Twin Twist and Top Spin were waiting.
"Commander Magnus-Blurr, you both are clear, come on in," Twin Twist said as he opened the gates. "It's good to see you both!"
Magnus then transformed from his carrier truck form into the robot that they all know and respect. Once he did, Blurr did the same.
"Heyguys, hastheshuttlearrived yet?"
"They are landing now on the otherside of the base…I'll take you to them!" Top Spin said as he led them through the base.
As they reached the outer doors, they parted and they looked on as the large shuttle landed. Once the engines were powered down, the forward entrance bay extended and steps came down from it. From his position, he saw the humans Spike and Daniel Witwicky walk down with their exosuits on.
Excellent!
