And so! . . . It begins?

- - "2153"; Somewhere Just Outside Our Solar-System: It is very dark and cold,

15 billion kilometers from the Sun, between the Oort Cloud, just outside the Kuiper Belt! A large, dark, circular, and thick, flat object floats menacingly, and stationary, just past the huge, doughnut shaped, ice field "ring" that encircles our solar-system's outer edge called the Kuiper Belt! The mysterious object is so gigantic, we can barely discern that it is "circular", as we only see the outer edge of the disc! Suddenly, a large, antenna dish swings into view from the edge of the monstrous black object, stops, and begins transmitting! The invisible signal races, "partially deflected" through the Kuiper Belt toward Earth! It streaks past the ship, past the orbital paths of Pluto and the "outer planets", the "gas giants" (Saturn, and Jupiter) orbits, through the Asteroid Belt, and the orbital path of Mars! It speeds by the orbital paths of Earth, Venus, Mercury, and past the Sun, at the speed of light! As it approaches, hurdling toward Earth! . . .

- - Continuous; On Earth: We can see a dazzling daytime, aerial view of the old S.E.T.I. radio-telescope dish, somewhere in the jungles of Puerto Rico. The words "Deep Space Radio Monitoring Station: New Puerto Rican Republic" appear over the breathtakingly beautiful, scenic vista . . .

- - Continuous; Radio Room: We are inside a long, underground, bunker-like monitoring room. There are several Sub-space Frequency receivers with digital oscilloscope readout panels that line both longer sides of the room, leaving a narrow aisle up the center. The radio equipment is actively humming, softly. At the end of the room nearest the door (On our left) is a Technician sitting in his chair, facing away from us, rhythmically gyrating in a manner similar to a seizure! He suddenly pivots the chair around to reveal he is wearing headphones, listening to some type of music that only he can hear! . . .

Immediately, our attention is drawn to the far end of the room by a red flashing light on a dust covered old machine, tucked in the corner; We can hear a crackling, oscillating, and garbled female "voice" say . . . something, indiscernibly! . . .

Across the room, the Technician has his eyes closed, "rocking out" to the music, and doesn't notice it! . . .

The "voice" slowly fades away, to be replaced by a strange, wildly spasmodic, yet rhythmic set of beeps, tones, and static, similar to that of a "fax machine" signal; . . .

The Technician opens his eyes momentarily, between songs. He's not gyrating, then starts "dancing in his chair" again. A few moments go bye before he catches sight of the flashing red light across the room, out of the corner of his eyes. He does a "double-take" at it, urgently stands, and races toward it, and out of view! . . .

Instantly, we are at floor-level, looking down the aisle-way at the machine, and flashing red light, across the room. From behind us, the Technician enters our view, running toward the machine. The headphones (he was wearing) drop directly in front of us, and a loud "music" can be heard emanating from them, as he streaks away, toward the far machine! They were ripped off his head, by the cord! In his haste, he forgot he was wearing them! . . .

Our view (Angle) is O.T.S. (Over The Shoulder) as he reaches the machine, skids to a halt, and attentively leans closer, to look at the wildly jumping digital read-out. He makes a few quick calculations while listening to the static that makes the cobwebs vibrate on the speaker box with the letters "M.H.F." on it. He activates the "recording device", and zips back across the room toward the com-link on the wall near the door, almost tripping over the headphones and cord! . . .

He stops himself with his extended arm, and activates the comm-link with his other, leaning against the doors edge! He waits a few seconds, as he is breathing heavily, and anxiety riddled, then hears a male voice (V.O.= Voice Over) from the speaker say,

"Starfleet Command, Communications; . . . Is anyone there?" He "tries" to catch his breath as he leans urgently nearer the speaker and blurts out, excitedly saying,

"This is the Deep Space Radio Monitoring Station, in the New Puerto Rican Republic! I just started picking up an unidentified signal on an old Mega-High Frequency band! It's coming from the restricted area, sector Omega IV, just outside the Kuiper Belt! Put me through to Starfleet Command, quick!" and breathes heavily! . . .
