Chapter 1:
King Termin's Predicament
Most of us know the legends of the land of Narnia. We know of the Pevensie children, who helped the great
Lion Aslan defeat Jadis, the White Witch, and become the great High Kings and Queens, immortalized in Narnian tales forever. We know of their return to Narnia a year later (well, a year to them, but 1,300 years for Narnia),
to aid the young Prince Caspian X in that war against the evil Miraz. We know of Lucy, Edmund, and their Cousin Eustace returning to Narnia to aid King Caspian X in the fateful voyage to the end of the world. We know of Eustace and his friend Jill trying to escape from bullies by getting into Narnia, and end up saving the kingdom, and we know of the story that was told that day around dinner of brave young Shatsa and his talking horse Bree. And finally, we know of that final battle, when the greatest heroes of Narnia return one final time. Some of us, even know of the first time a human ever came to Narnia.
But here is a story you probably don't know. Many, many years after the events that transpired during "The Last Battle", peace reigned over the land. To ensure that each king was the best possible king for Narnia, when the present king was near death, Aslan Himself would return to Narnia and select the most upright and just man from among the whole of the land. To ensure that they were up to the challenge, Aslan's choice would go on a special journey. The current king, Termin, was sick. All of the land's best physicians were called in to examine him, and they were all convinced that King Termin would live. He was still young, about 40, however, all of a sudden, several scattered reports came in. Reports that a proud, golden Lion had been spotted. Upon hearing these reports, Termin offered up a silent prayer:
"Oh, Aslan... You appeared to the last king before his death, and then You came to me. Oh, Aslan, YOU are the true King of Narnia, I am but your ambassador. If it is your will for me to join You in the utter east, please, make Your will know, whatever it may be." Before the last word had ever been though, he felt a calming presence. Termin opened his eyes, and saw Aslan himself standing in front of him.
"Oh Aslan! Is it truely you? Or is my illness now causing me to hallucinate?"
"No, Termin." The Lion's voice was gentle, and a smile spread across his golden snout. "No, I am not a dream. I have come to tell you that despite all physical signs, you are nearing death. When you shut your eyes for the final time in this world, you shall open them for the first time in My world. I shall now go and find your heir." Then, as soon as he had appeared, the great Lion disappeared once again.
"Well..." said Termin with a smile, "He's not a tame Lion."
