The ending is a bit sudden, and seems to have a "pulled out of thin air" quality to it. Introducing More »

    Mission #4
    deadline 7.16.07 | 3PM PT

Believe it or not, your final mission is about to begin. The story you've been developing has taken some unexpected and — dare I say it — fascinating turns. I want to say again how impressed I am with your creativity and the quality of your writing. It's been a genuine pleasure guiding you through this process.

In round three's winning submission, we learned that, due to the Guardian's malfunction, alternate versions of Spock, Data, and McCoy became trapped in Earth's distant past. They all live into the 1960s, where they encounter Gary Seven. Mister Seven seems to understand the nature of the Guardian's malfunction and what needs to be done to correct it. Orbiting the Guardian Planet, Kirk intends to destroy the Guardian in order to save his ship, despite Picard's objections. We learn that Mister Seven, in a Starfleet uniform, is manning the engineering station on Enterprise-D. Guinan reveals that it isn't Kirk's ship that's supposed to be destroyed - it's Picard's. The auto-destruct sequence has been activated, and the ship will explode in ninety seconds.

For your final mission, write a scenario in which you bring the conflict between Kirk and Picard to a head and figure out how the alternate Data and Spock complete their mission and fix the Guardian's malfunction, restoring the original timeline in the process! You should also address how Gary Seven got aboard the Enterprise-D, and whether an alternate Kirk was trapped in the 1930s along with Spock and McCoy.

Time travel stories can be intimidating. There is usually a paradox or two that's hard — sometimes impossible — to solve. Don't worry if you can't tie up every loose end, just open up your imaginations and have fun with it. To coin a phrase, make it so!

Will those hidden details secure their success? Or will they prove to be their undoing? Meanwhile, Spock and Data make a startling discovery. Note: This version lost my format, but has a clean presentation of Kirk and Picard's dialoge.
