Inside, I Am More

You see my outward face;

   You see my home and dwelling place;

You see my life from outdoor;

   But deep inside, I am more.

You see me as I smile;

   You and I may even talk a while;

Please, listen as I implore,

   Because deep inside, I am more.

I live by a standard, a code of chivalry,

   Of prowess, justice, and loyalty,

But these things seem not to allure;

   No one sees that deep inside, I am more.

Defense, courage, even humility,

   Don’t strengthen, but make me lonely.

How I long for someone to enter my door,

   And accept that deep inside, I am more!

I once stood so close to you;

   Was willing, with you, to suffer too;

Hoping that you’d see in me and not ignore

   The fact that deep inside, I am more.

But now you’ve turned and left me here,

   Standing alone and left with my fear:

That no one will ever see indoor,

   That deep inside, I am so much more.
