I Am Alive

I Am Alive

I was sleeping

Sleeping my long winter’s rest

When it came…

A storm

A storm of Ice and Fire.

It tore away my parts

And left me wanting.

I was cold

So cold

No Sun

No Light

No Heat

No Love

No Compassion

But then…

The Sun smiled

And warmed the Earth

My friends filled the sky

With Green, and White, and Pink

But not I

For I was bare, and weak and dying

But a single red bud

Dared show its face

From My branches

And it was not alone.

A/N: This poem was inspired when I walked by a tree that was seemingly dead as it had lost most of its branches during the Oklahoma ice storm back in December.  But then I spied several red buds on a single branch.  The Redbud Tree is, interesting enough, the state tree of my native Oklahoma.
