    Before the post office, there were other, slower ways to communicate. My interpretation is that words were etched out on stone tablets, then passed through coorespondants along the way. As humans we strive to communicate, and I would think this goes back as far as possible in our time on Earth. Here is a letter from a woman to her mother in 10,000 B.C.
