Bad Karma
From Transformers: Animated
Stuck in a fox hole with an injured partner and an impatient Ratchet wasn't exactly how Surge imagined Pasadena as they were out manned. While waiting for backup, Surge passes the time with the story of her origin.
Summer vacation was finally here. She could now kick back and relax without having to worry about the common threats of everyday suburban living as she traveled along the road. She could almost smell and taste the salty sea air as she stuck her nose out the window, a bright gleaming smile plastered across her face as her golden hair blew back in the wind. Though she looked forward to the thoughts of lounging by beach side, or spending more time with her best friend, she hated to admit that deep down, she truly was going to miss the everyday run ins with local trouble.
"Pasadena here we come!" She said happily, ducking back into the cab of her vehicle as her hand gently lay on the wheel which had a mind of its own.
"I look forward to our annual vacations. It'll certainly be nice to kick back and relax without trouble erupting out of the blue." Sparkshot spoke up.
He never really looked forward to much in his lifetime, but since having met Surge, he has learned to appreciate these little breaks the humans called vacations. To them, they only came in the summer, but he did not care when the time came. It was a relief to get a breather from this seemingly never ending civil war.
The sound of a pair of jets soaring overhead however caught her attention as she stuck her head out of the car once again. Looking ahead, she could see a familiar emergency vehicle fast approaching them as two jets swooped in closer, firing at the old vehicle.
"Speak of the devils." Surge said as she smirked, sliding her sunglasses down over her eyes as a glint of sun danced across her pearly whites. With the roof transforming back, she stood up with her right foot resting against the dashboard as a jade green photon canon formed around her wrist. A familiar feeling swept across her upper shoulders and down her spine, she knew it as the undeniable feeling of a battle rush.
"Steady now Sparky.. Almost.." She said to herself as she steadied herself in a discomforting position while she took aim at the two jets that soared just ahead of them in the sky. As Ratchet passed them, she locked onto her targets as the one known as Blitzwing spiraled into view. With her free hand steadying her wrist, she let the canon fly. Watching eagerly, Surge hoped silently as the missile blast spiraled in the air, making direct contact with it's intended target as an explosion lit up the sky.
"Bullseye! Haha!" She triumphantly cheered as the enemy jet crashed into a nearby hillside.
"We're not out of the woods yet." Sparkshot said as he swerved, narrowly missing a missile aimed at him by the second jet. The sudden movement had uprooted Surge as she crashed into the back seat stuck tight and leaving Sparkshot vulnerable to airial attacks.
"T?" He spoke upon no longer sensing her current position, more worried about his partner than himself as he ran straight into a missile aimed ahead at him. The impact caused him to flip in the air and roll off of the embankment.
"Hang on kid!" Ratchet had swerved back to aid them as Surge crawled out from beneath a transformed Sparkshot, scratched and bruised as she held her head.
"That was nuts." She proclaimed as she shook her head to clear her mind. Turning to Sparkshot, she stood rigid as all color drained from her. Beside her, Sparkshot lay in pain, holding his chest as hydraulic fluid slowly dripped from the open wound.
"Sparky.. " She ran up to him, concerned for her best friend.
"I'll be.. fine. Really. It's just a scratch." He said, lying like always to calm her worries.
For the first time since they had met, Surge cried out as she ducked her face against the warm metal of his arm while an explosion occurred nearby, sending an upheaval of soil and rock into the air. Looking up, she could see a twin missile tank above them as it had them in target range. The sight of magnetic rays blasting at the tank was a relief as Surge turned to see that Ratchet had come to their aid.
"Please tell me this is the first time you two were knocked senseless." Ratchet said, as he helped keep the decepticons at bay. He had always thought that the two could fair well in battle.
"Eh.. We don't always have it so lucky." She confessed as she blasted at the tank, destroying one of the missile launchers, forcing the tank to transform back into jet mode as it took to the air.
"Prime, we need back up pronto." Ratchet said, activating his built in communicator as a blue shield came down around them. He turned to see that Surge had activated another gadget from the depths of her never ending surprise bag she called a watch.
"We're on our way." Prime had stated on the other end.
"That watch of yours is cybertronian technology isn't it?" He asked her as she held onto the staff which supported the tent like shield that had E-ported from the subspace storage unit in her watch.
