An Unusual Pairing

Author's Note: Ok, so I was messing around on Youtube and got the idea for this fic. Please don't bash it, I know they don't have a snowball's chance, But I like to root for the least likly romances. it is set after The Day of Black sun. The group made it to the western air temple where they found Zuko. Aang and the others allow Zuko to stay and teach Aang firebending. That's where we come in now. major Zuko/katara, some toph/sokka. As always, Please Review!

     "I can't believe we're letting ZUKO stay here!" Sokka said for the billionth time. Kitara sighed and sat down next to him. "I don't like it any more than you do, but for the last time, someone needs to teach Aang firebending, and I don't see a line forming for that job, do you?" She replied, struggling to keep the frustration out of her voice. "Why don't you go check and see if you can find the "former" big jerk," Sokka suggested, putting air quotes around "former", "I haven't seen him since he and Aang had that little talk." Kitara sighed and stood up. "I probably should, I need to show him where his room'll be. He probably just went to go get his stuff from his camp he'd been staying at." She walked away, deciding to ignore Sokka's sarcastic, "Oh, Yeah, THAT'S it." She did stop, however, when he added, "I never knew why you always saw the good in him." She didn't answer, how could she? He wouldn't understand, he hadn't been there down in Old Ba Sing Se. He hadn't seen the look on Zukko's face when they were talking about all they talked about. She had seen it, that little bit of good in him, that little bit of him that wasn't the monster everyone saw, just a scared, lonley boy who wanted his father to love him. She knew it was there, somwhere deep down in there. As she walked away, the memory of her imprisonment came back to her as if it had just happened. The anger at him for everything he had done, the sadness she had felt when she had found out about Zukko's mother, touching his scarred face, being close enough to kiss him... She shook her head, trying to clear the thoughts out. She couldn't let her gaurd down, not again,not after the last time... Again the memories came flooding back, The battle, him deciding, the pain she had felt when he had betrayed them. No, not them, her. She had thought he had changed, but apparently not. A voice interrupted her thoughts. "Looking for me?" Kitara jumped slightly as the fire nation prince stepped from behind a pillar. "Sorry, I didn't mean to startle you." He chuckled slightly at her reaction. "You DID NOT scare me, I was just a little startled." Kitara retorted, feeling herself blush. "Shall we be on our way, then?" Zuko asked, still smiling slightly. The response was a quick, "HM" and her leading the way. As they walked along, it was Zuko who broke the silence. "You do believe me, about me being changed and on your side, right?" Kitara Looked at him with a strange expression in her eyes. Zuko couldn't believe it. Was that hurt? "I thought yoiu had changed one before and that nearly got both Aang and me killed." She said in a low voice, trying to keep out all the emotions that were threatening to spill out. "besides, what do you care what I think?" Zuko thought about that. Why did he care? He didn't know, but he DID know that he didn't care if Sokka believed him, if toph believed him, or even if the avatar believed him. The he only person he cared about was her. The memory of her touching his face, touching his scar, without even flinching or looking away,came to his mind, and with it, the same feelings of just complete happiness, of that all he wanted to do was take her in his arms and never let go... He answered her carefully, not wanting to give anything away, "I don't know why I care if you believe me, but I do. I am a changed man.I wish you would trust me." He added the last part in a whisper. Before Kitara could respond, there was an explosion ahead of them. Both ran to see what had happened. "Sorry! Just a little earthbending accident! That was my bad!" Toph appeared from behind a large boulder. " was trying to teach Aang a new move and the room kinda collapsed." She smiled nervously at them. "So you're not hurt?" Toph shook her head no. "Good! because I'm going to KILL YOU!!! That was supposed to be Zuko's room! Now where is he supposed to sleep!?!" Aang laid a calming hand on her shoulder. "Zuko will just have to sleep either with one of us or outside. He can't sleep in my room 'cause it's too small, and toph and Sokka are already rooming together..." He glanced at the two in question, who promptly turned an unheard of shade of red. "so I guess your choices are Kitara's room, or outside. Kitara, what do you think?" Kitara thought for a moment, then nodded. "I guess it's OK. You'll have to sleep on  the floor." Zuko nodded, " I sleep better on the floor anyway." "Ok,then, I'll show you where it is." They made their way toward a small room at the end of a hall. "This is it? Sheesh, if this is your room I wonder how small the avatar's is." He looked around the room. There was a small cot, a few books, and a small bowl of water. He smiled at the last item. "What? What's so funny?" He pointed to the bowl of water. "What's that for?" She looked at the bowl. All of a sudden, Zuko was pinned against the wall with icicles. Kitara was standing there, still in stance, glaring at him. "Do you still think it's funny?"
