I'm going to have to do some research to write this one.

This is one of the toughest contests I've written for! Speed Racer is such a visual show, with such distinct styles of dialogue.

Leave it to Fanlib to really challenge us!

Alright, I am in this thing! Holy cow what a tough one. I had some other scenes I wish I could include - like how Speed is convinced by Faye (from Cowboy Bebop) that he is the One b/c he can speak fluent Japanese - even though he never studied it. I was going to include characters from my other favorite Japanese cartoons - Battle of the Planets and Starblazers - but I could see my condensed Speed Matrix story was going to be way too long. Hopefully, I got some funny highlights in...

Whigworld, well played as always - you stole my first idea of a story from Chim-Chim's POV.

And as always, to all: good luck. My scathing reviews will begin shortly!

GO!

Man, was it hard to come up with something for this. When I was 5 or 6 years old, it was my favorite show, but I really had a difficult time matching this to my style of writing.

So I decided to just have some fun!

I wasn't sure if I was gonna enter this one or not but I did see the movie this weekend so I decided, "What the hell?"

I hope everyone enjoys my submission--I know I did.

Last minute entries FTW! My first one had to be brutally cut, but I like my second one a lot better.

LOL thehoodedmenace, you did manage to slip yours in even after mine!

Yes! I agree with all of you. This one required some ... uh, digging ... deep within, into the basement of TV memories, plus some up-to-date research to pull it off. I agree, ahks, there were so many scenes that would have been nice to include, but, alas the 15,000 (or less on MS Word) character count restraint (a blessing in disguise to keep us all from insanity). By the way, ahks, I love how you added your distinctiveness to your avatar.

Thus, without further delay, Speed Racer, as I've reconstructed it.

Enjoy,

A challenge indeed! My cousin and I came up with all sorts of hilarious gags that I decided to cut out because of the character limit.

I also decided to borrow more from the tone of the movie because the show can sometimes just get downright silly. Not to say that there aren't any silly moments in my submission, it just didn't turn out as funny as my cousin and I had imagined.

Oy vay.
People take these contests WAY to seriously.

Even when offering constructive criticism, people don't want to hear it because they think their writing is perfect.

The only way to get past it is just give EVERYONE five stars, and tell them that it WAS perfect.

...oh brother.

(Sorry- had to rant. Am LOVING all the entries, by the by.)

I thought I was doing well with my plan to review everything...and then a whole load of people went and entered at the last minute! That's most inconsiderate of you

Still, three days...I think I can manage that...

Sorry, cathrl! I was trying to wait until I'd seen the movie. I'd love to have you review my entry--and I promise not to bitch if you give constructive criticism.

Wheew! Barely made it! I'm scared to go back and read what I wrote. LOL I barely had any time to edit. I normally like to take several days to edit my work - usually resulting in me having a completely different story thatn what I originally wrote. This one is very raw.

Considering I just started writing it last night, I think I did pretty well to get anything in at all

I have to wonder about my use of fandom, though. I've never seen the cartoons - just the new movie stuff. I hope that doesn't mess me up. I fugure the cartoon has to come foward a little to survive, huh?

Edit: I did have time to spellcheck.

Jopierce won my promo!!!!

Ouch. Mine is really short and I didn't get much time to proofread it as I would've liked. But shrug, that's what I get for submitting like, two minutes before deadline lol. I tried to keep it light, not too descriptive and airy like the show. I'm not expecting it to go far, but I like being in all contests and I like my submission, plus I plan on reading and reviewing a lot anyway.

Good luck all!
