I love that Lois knows Clark so well that she can deal with his angsty sessions. And how transparent Clark is to her in some ways here, like how he starts lecturing her in such a huff and she just knows it's about Lana. (Because "it usually is Lana"...nice....) And I love that she doesn't coddle him or rail at him, like his parents or his friends mostly seem to do. She plays off her comments like jokes and they work better than anybody else's "pep talks."

Oh, Clark...when, oh when will you get a clue and break up with Lana?

You're making this review challenge so much easier for me....

This was an outlandishly contrived scenario...but then, that is not only what fanfiction is often for, but what romantic comedies such as, by way of random example, *Lois & Clark* do so well, too.

I could imagine this scene in the show (*Smallville*, that is): Lois storming along on a mission, Clark bemusedly tagging along behind her. And the awkwardness when Lois realizes Clark really does like her (good ol' Clark...he hides his feelings so poorly!).

It was nice to see Pete again, too, even just for a cameo.

I've been looking through this site for the past hour in order to find a few fics to review for the current contest. This is the first I've found that seemed worth reviewing--I felt that my reviews on the others would be more of a litany of grammatical errors I found or characterizations I disliked. Not so with this fic at ALL. I feel like I must have read this before, and that if I liked it even half as much as I liked it this time around I must have reviewed it...maybe on another fanfic site? Anyhow, I'm glad the contest search led me back around to this fic, and I don't suppose you'll begrudge me a second review.

You have Lois and Clark's characters spot on. You seem to have special insight into Lois--her seeming conflicting (but not actually conflicting, from her POV) reasons for being afraid of starting a relationship with Clark, her defensiveness, her constant self-critiquing. But your Clark is so well done, too--so incredibly patient and understanding. Just the sort of man Lois would need. :)

There's an awful lot of angst here for Lois and Clark. I'm glad you got through that to a happy ending. What a great Lois you wrote -- she was just amazing in characterization and range.
