I love the way that you described Boromir's death. I especially love how he calls for aid with the Horn of Gondor, and then hears the calling of silver trumpets as he dies.

The fact that this is in all one paragraph makes it a little difficult to read. This could use a little work - but it's still lovely. =)

This is nicely written, yet I'm very glad this was not the reality those left at Minas Tirith had to face. It is an interesting muse though.

Since it all rested on the destruction of the ring, the question now would be, "Where is Frodo?" Is this the "what if" he never destroyed the ring? At this point, does Sauron have Frodo? Is Sam still alive and trying to right things? And where is Gollum? If Sauron has the ring, then all is lost and Middle-earth's destruction is only a matter of time.

You have your story labled "Chapter One." I wonder, what you'll write after this. I must say, Tolkien's ending is more satisfying.

You have a warm insight into the hearts of the LOTR characters. "The Calling of Silver Trumpets" is a nice final moment for Boromir. To deepen the impact of his moment, it may be nice to read it from a stronger first person point of view. You do write from Boromir's view, but it feels removed from his immediate pain, confusion and loss. It's almost like he's narrating his last moments.

I like the way you begin with Boromir calling for help with the horn of Gondor, and then you end with Boromir hearing the Silver Trumpets beckoning him home. Those two instruments make strong beginning and end points for your short story.

It would be nice to see you iron this out a bit. You always produce such nice work that has so much of Tolkien's feel to it.

I love Eowyn's thoughts and her determination. I like that you've made her strong and yet gentle at the same time revealing her romantic idealism to die a warriors death, while maintaining her sense of practicality knowing that time is running out.
